What should you expect from a lactation consultation?

(914) 498 5878. Visits are generally scheduled around a baby's expected feeding time. Because life with a newborn is anything but predictable, should something change on the day of the visit, send a text or give a call so the visit can be moved accordingly. If you have to cancel or reschedule, please allow as much time as possible. 

Expect the visit to last approximately two hours, longer if problems are involved and complex. The consultation starts with you filling out a consent form and a comprehensive medical history as related to breastfeeding. An at-home lactation consultation includes weighing your baby before and after feeding, observing/assisting with a feeding, taking your history, examining your baby's mouth and your breasts. If applicable, I will also assist and help with your pump. Together we will problem solve and try out strategies that may be helpful for both of you. Please do not worry about cleaning up your home or prepare for the consult as if I am a visitor. Life with a newborn is chaotic even in the best of circumstances and when you are struggling, it feels even more overwhelming. I am there to help! Feel free to include your husband, partner, grandmother, or other children in the consult as long as you feel comfortable with their presence. 

I am a paperless consultant. Within 24 hours of our meeting, you will receive an e-mail with a report from our visit that also includes links to useful websites as well as tips and recommendations that specifically addresses your situation. 

All follow-ups via phone and e-mail are included in fee at the time of visit. 

I accept payment at the time of service and will supply you with a "superbill" that you may submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Contact me for fees.
